I was working in the Springfield Woods today, carving out some stairs to make it easier to get down the hill leading to the stream.  The job was harder than I thought it would be because of the buried shards of broken glass.  The broken glass nearly filled the garbage bag.  Yes, the bag was heavy as I hauled it out of the woods!

While digging in the dirt, sifting out the glass, I came upon a ring buried deep in the dirt.

Update: Springfield Woods Cleanup: The JHU Presidents Day of Service!

 

The Friends of the Springfield Woods in Historic Wilson Park will participate in the Johns Hopkins University's President's Day of Service in a clean up of the Springfield Woods on Saturday, October 27th from 12 noon to 3 pm.  

Students, staff members and faculty members from JHU will join with community members to help restore the fresh water stream in the Springfield Woods, an urban forest located at Springfield Ave between the Alameda  and St. Georges Avenue.

Anyone can volunteer to help in the clean up by showing up ready to work by 12 noon.  Warning: Please wear shoes or boots that can get muddied! For further information call Butch Berry at 443-622-8224.
